Starting a business can be exciting. New horizons, ambitious goals, and, if everything goes according to plan, rewarding results. Yes, all of this is true, but every entrepreneur must also be aware of the risks that come with starting a new venture. One of the challenges that new business owners face during the first months is related to funding. Where and how can I finance my project are two of the most common questions that usually keep entrepreneurs awake at night. But what if I told you that there is a simple way to get the necessary money to start your business without borrowing money from relatives, relying on banks, or using your own personal savings.

In this article, we will dive into the crowdfunding world, talk about the benefits of crowdfunding for entrepreneurs and answer the million-dollar question: is crowdfunding worth it?

What is crowdfunding?

If this article about crowdfunding for entrepreneurs aims to answer the question “is crowdfunding worth it?”, then the first logical step is to define the concept itself. So, without further ado, we can say that crowdfunding is the process where a large number of “investors” contribute small amounts of money to fund a specific project, business, or venture.

The best part? Crowdfunding relies on digital platforms, websites, and social media to broaden up the investors pool, allowing the person in need of financing to get money not only from relatives and acquaintances, but also from complete strangers surfing the internet. Some examples of popular crowdfunding platforms are Kickstarter, GoFundMe, and Indiegogo.

Crowdfunding and entrepreneurship

Now that we know what crowdfunding is, the next thing to figure out is how it can help and benefit your business. Thanks to the power and massiveness of the Internet, crowdfunding allows entrepreneurs to get funding from people and places they couldn’t have access to in the first place. Now, strangers on the other side of the world can fund your projects from the comfort of their homes.

Another crowdfunding for entrepreneurs benefit to point out is that it lets multiple investors provide small amounts of money for your venture. By financing your business, these investors show their interest in your products or services, allowing you not only to interact with potential customers, but also to measure the public’s opinion on what you offer. The equation is simple: if people are interested, they will most likely invest in your business.

Is crowdfunding worth it?

Okay, you’ve made it to the end, so it is time to answer the question: is crowdfunding worth it? Well, as is usually the case, the answer depends on each entrepreneur, project, or venture. Some businesses might not find crowdfunding as attractive or viable as others, maybe because they think it could damage their reputation or they don´t like it as a concept. But if you want to reach new funding horizons and get financing from many people around the world, then you should give it a try!
